Jason Melo, 26, living in Harlem got sentenced to 7 years in prison for forcing his 22-year-old girlfriend and mother of his child to walk around their block fully undressed. This was after several hours of physical and verbal abuse in his apartment, according to the evidence tht was submitted to the Manhattan Supreme Court at his trial.
The Daily News reported that ,”Jason Melo’s view of women belongs to the Dark Ages,” Justice Robert Mandelbaum said before sentencing the former United Nations chef to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.
“To him, women are property.”
Melo apparently filmed the entire stunt while scolding and cursing her out in Spanish calling her a “whore” which can all be heard in the video. He then posted the shameful video on instagram, promoted it and tried to sell merchandise with quotes from it.
He sent the clip to relatives and those he believed she had be flirting with.
According to the mother, they were in the process of breaking up and she was going to move to the Dominican Republic without him.
Their 2-month-old baby was left unattended on Melo’s bed at his W. 142nd St. building as he threatened to beat her with a metal Buddha statue if she refused to go outside in the nude.
The video went viral and became the subject of a widely covered news story when Melo was arrested.
